When it comes to losing weight, we all think that we know the score. If we eat right and do exercise then the pounds should fall off. However, it isn’t always as easy as this. The eating healthily part is the bit that the majority of people do best; whilst it is true to say that many find it difficult to resist the temptations of the unhealthy foods, once you are into a routine you find that it gets much easier with time. However, the exercise part is what many people struggle with. Weekdays don’t exactly lend themselves to nipping down to the gym for a few hours; the work is generally long and hard and the trouble is that by the time we get home, all we want to do is rest; not the best way to get yourself motivated to go out and have a work out! What is needed is a way to lose weight whilst you relax.

Yoga and weight loss aren’t generally two things that you’d think to link; of course, yoga relaxes you but surely it can’t make you lose weight too? Yet, yoga weight loss is something that is well known and practiced throughout the world. If you try and do yoga for weight loss then you will find it much easier to lose weight. The main advantage to yoga is that the only motivation you need is a desire to relax; something that we all have when we get home from work. You don’t have to go anywhere – just find a spot on the floor and start relaxing and losing weight.

Whilst we don’t realise it, yoga does in fact work our muscles very hard. The constant controlled movement means that we are burning of calories from the moment we start and the fact that it also helps to relax us means that we feel less inclined to give up; the result being that we end up exercising for longer. Yet, the mental benefits that yoga brings can also help you to lose weight in the long term. The removal of stress or other emotions that can often lead to comfort eating means that long term yoga weight loss is certainly an option.

Essentially, yoga and weight loss are inextricably linked, not only because of the physical activity but also by putting you in a weight loss frame of mind. Ashtanga yoga and Bikram yoga are two types that focus on weight loss rather than stretching so are worth trying if you want to try yoga for weight loss.
